Manchester City have defeated Leeds United to extend their lead on top of the Premier League table, Breaking Sport News reports.
First Half Report
Manchester City dominated proceedings as the first half kicked off with Leeds sitting back to defend as the home side mounted pressure.
It was another vintage display by the Citizens who looked set to extend their lead on the Premier League table against struggling Leeds.
Leeds United players seemed to mark out Erling Haaland but Ryadh Mahrez and Gundogan combination was classic.
After a marathon of pressure, Kevin De Bruyne led the charge for Manchester City’s first goal, sending a wide pass to Ryadh Mahrez, who then crossed in for IIkay Gundogan to slot home Manchester City’s first goal in the 20th minute.
In the 27th minute, IIkay Gundogan was again on target as he doubled the lead for the home side with another cross from Ryadh Mahrez.
Manchester City went into the first half break with a deserved 2-0 lead.
Second Half Report
Despite taking a two-goal lead into the break, Manchester City still held a swathe of possession in the second half.
They had over 80% of the possession, completed more passes than Leeds and were looking to bag their third goal.
Leeds United continued to stay back in their half to defend while looking to break out chances with counters all to no avail.
The Citizens were still dominant with more attempts but were unable to break through Leeds brink wall defense in the second half.
With less than 10 minutes remaining it was still 2-0 in favor of the home side.
In the 84th minute, Gundogan missed a penalty that would have extended City’s lead.
A minute after the penalty miss, Rodrygo put one back for Leeds to retain comeback hopes.
The game ended with Manchester City grabbing a 2-1 win to extend the lead on the Premier League top to four points.
