Inter Milan have emerged Victorious in Milan derby as they saw off local rivals, AC Milan, with an emphatic 5-1 win, Breaking Sport News reports.
It was a tightly-contested clash between the two sides as they battled for a win at the San Siro.
The result of the game was a far cry from the play as both sides gave good account of themselves on ball possession and goal attempts but Inter Milan had the better of their noisy neighbors with a more prolific attack.
Just five minutes into the game, former Manchester United attacker, Mkhitaryan, opened the scoring for Inter Milan.
AC Milan did little to find a leveler and were punished again in the 38th minute when Thuram made it 2-0 for Inter Milan before the interval.
Despite grabbing a two-goal lead before the first half break, Inter Milan were still carrying their attacking threat upfront while AC Milan controlled more possession but could not make anything happen.
The first half ended with Inter Milan taking the lead into the break.
AC Milan put on a more clinical performance in the second half and were looking to pull a comeback with Raphael Leao’s lifeline goal in the 56th minute.
The Portuguese forward, assisted by Olivier Giroud, scored to curtailed the deficit and restore comeback hopes after trailing by two goals.
AC Milan continued the game with a more dominant display with ball possession but were dealt a fatal blow in the 69th minute when Mkhitaryan scored again to bag his brace and extend the lead for Inter Milan again.
After conceding the third goal, AC Milan made frantic efforts to reduce the deficit again and possibly pulled a comeback.
They pressed high up Inter’s half and dominated proceedings but could make anything happen.
In the 79th minute, their comeback hopes was dealt a final blow as Inter Milan scored a again via a spotkick by Calhanoglu to take the scoreline to 4-1.
At this point, it was gameover for AC Milan as Inter were cruising to a big derby win after the fourth goal.
In stoppage-time, Frattesi made it 5-1 for Inter Milan as they ran out with one of their biggest derby win over AC Milan after the final whistle.
